10:00AM-Soccer: Switzerland OR Spain

The World Cup continues today with a matchup between two Group H teams that will have two very different goals.  Switzerland is looking to end up with a couple of points and is not really being picked as likely to advance out of their group.  Spain, on the other hand, is picked by many to win the whole tournament or at the very least lose in the finals to Brazil.  Spain will look to be just the fourth team in the Cup to win by 2 goals while Switzerland will hope the successes of the underdogs continue in this one.

StreakFacts:

  • Switzerland is ranked 24th in the FIFA world rankings
  • Spain is ranked #2 in the FIFA world rankings
  • Switzerland had 2 wins and 2 draws in their 2009 world cup qualifiers
  • Spain was 4-0-0 in their 2009 world cup qualifiers, 3 of which were won by 2 or more
  • Spain has -400 odds to win the match
  • Spain -1.5 is +110 in the odds
  • Switzerland win/draw/lose by one is favored at -130

Tonto picks Switzerland to win/draw/lose by 1 *  (1 out of 5 stars)

The sheer lack of goals in this World Cup has me worried that there is no way that Spain will be able to win by 2.  If North Korea can lose by 1 to Brazil, who knows what will happen in this game.  I am going with the conservative play here and hoping that Spain doesn’t do what they are capable of, scoring lots of goals.
