2:30PM-Soccer: North Korea OR Brazil

The World Cup continues today with a matchup between two Group G teams that will have two very different goals.  North Korea is looking to end up with just a draw in one of their three games while Brazil is looking to go undefeated and begin what in all likelihood could be a championship.  The question in this game is will Brazil win by 2 or more or will North Korea be able to hang on and win/draw/or lose by 1?

StreakFacts:

  • North Korea is  105th in the FIFA world rankings
  • Brazil is number one in the FIFA world rankings
  • North Korea had two draws in their 2009 world cup qualifiers
  • Brazil was 9-2-7 in their 2009 world cup qualifiers
  • Brazil has -1300 odds to win the match
  • Brazil by -2.5 is +120 in the odds
  • North Korea +2.5 is -140

Tonto picks Brazil to win by 2 or more * * * *  (4 out of 5 stars)

I can’t see North Korea scoring in this game, and if they don’t there is almost no way Brazil is held to less than 2 goals.  Goals have been at quite a premium in the World Cup, but this is quite possibly the worst team in the tournament against perhaps the best.  Success for North Korea would be to lose by only one in my opinion, but the way the Asian teams have played who knows what might happen.

espn has brazil #1 in power rankings and north korea #78 in power rankings

  • Those are the same rankings as the ELO rankings (www.elorankings.net). I wonder if ESPN just copied their rankings?
